LimSee3 Help - Off-line installation

En français

The off-line installation procedure consists in three main steps:

  1. Getting an off-line installer
  2. Starting the installer
  3. Following the installation procedure

In the following sections, we describe each step.

Get an installer

First of all, you need the installer file, named limsee3-install.jar. You can download it from our repository: you will find the latest installer in the Software section of the LimSee3 web site. Save the limsee3-install.jar file at some easy-to-access location, e.g. on your Desktop. (After installation, you can erase it.)

Start the installer

The installer can be executed on multiple systems, but the way to launch it depends on the actual one. We list below the way of starrting the installation on Windows, Mac OS and Linux.

Launching the installer on Windows

Installer icon Windows

In most cases, double-clicking on the installer icon is sufficient for starting the installation.

However, on some Windows systems, double-clicking on the icon launches an other application, mainly some sort of archiver (WinZip, IzArc,...). If this is the case, quit that application and follow the instructions below. For the sake of simplicity, we will suppose that your limsee3-install.jar file is located in the C:\ folder. (You can move it there if it is not the case.)

  1. Go to the Start menu and select Execute.

    Start menu, execute line

  2. Type cmd as the name of the application to execute (and validate by Enter).

    cmd command

This will bring up a new window (a console).

  3. In the console, type c: (and validate by Enter)

    console c:

  4. Now type cd \

    Console cd \

  5. And finally, type java -jar limsee3-install.jar

    Console launch

This will start the installer. Do not close the console until the installation procedure is finished!

Launching the installer on Mac OS

Installer icon Mac OS

Simple double-click on the installer icon to begin the installation.

Launching the installer on Linux

Installer icon Linux

On Linuxes, double-clicking on the installer icon most probably does not launch the installer. Rather, an archiver is executed.

Therefore, you need to follow this procedure instead:

  1. Open a Terminal (Applications - Accessories - Terminal)
  2. Type into the Terminal: cd ~/Desktop

(if the installer is located on the Desktop; otherwise go to the corresponding directory)

  3. Type java -jar limsee3-install.jar

That's it. Do not close the Terminal until the installation is over.

Installation procedure

The installation procedure is the same on all systems. Slight differences in graphics or message wording might occur, but they have no impact on the result.

Selecting the installation language

The first action you are required to do is to choose the language of the installation. Currently, English and French are available; we will use the english version in the sequel.
